How We Retouch Skin

Two techniques we use in the fashion industry for undetectable skin retouching are Frequency Separation and Dodge and Burn.
Frequency separation is a technique that uses two copies of the same image, on two different layers in Photoshop. One of its copies is blurred to affect only the colors. The other copy keeps only the texture of the image. Thus, we retouch color problems on one layer and texture problems on the other.
The other technique, Dodge and Burn, is used in high-end magazines. No blur is applied. Instead, every pit or bump on the skin is lightened or darkened to even out the texture. However, this technique takes more time. we only recommend it if you are doing projects that require very high quality or are being paid to do so!
